Lotus Blossom uses a 9×9 pattern: the challenge sits at the centre, eight themes surround it, and each becomes the centre of an outer 3×3 blossom with eight ideas. This yields up to 64 specific ideas.

Start with the core question: Which 64 concrete ideas emerge when we fully expand eight main themes?
When a central question feels too large, the method breaks it into neighboring topic fields with their own depth of ideation. It holds structure and openness at the same time, so adjacent perspectives don't get lost. This grows an idea space out of a core problem.
Several thematic fields emerge from the core, each treated again as its own thinking surface. This nesting prevents ideation from circling on just one level and brings hidden neighboring problems to the surface. The result is especially valuable when a topic needs to be understood organizationally, technically, and from the user side at the same time.
Lotus Blossom works because it systematically expands a core problem into adjacent subspaces and idea fans derived from them. The benefit shows when the first level is set cleanly and the following fields produce genuine shifts in perspective rather than just filler material. This becomes reliable through thematic discipline, clear labeling, and later tracing back to the original problem, so breadth emerges without arbitrariness.
Put a question with genuine relevance in the center and make sure the first surrounding fields really represent different approaches. You should stay alert when side aspects start overshadowing the center; a brief return to the core question helps then. Close with a look at the most promising subspaces and derive a focused deep dive from them.
