One facilitator with Wardley experience; two to five people with domain knowledge; one strategy owner with decision mandate; optional external sparring partner for bias check.
Strategy question; known anchor users and their needs; component inventory (make/buy/use); market analysis on component maturity; previous Wardley experience.
3-4 h for first map, then 1-2 h per iteration
Y-axis upward means visible to users, downward invisible to users. X-axis evolution. Place anchor top right. Use consistent notation.

Pitfalls
Recognize symptoms and steer against them

Evolution measures own maturity
Components are placed where own team has them, not where market is.
Require market evidence per component.
Map without movement
Static map shows current state, no arrows, no climate statement.
At least three arrows with evidence. Without movement it is inventory.
No decision
Workshop ends with map and no binding move.
Decider mandatory in phase 5. At least one decision with owner and date.
Too much detail
Map contains 80+ components.
Maximum 12 components per anchor. Use sub-maps when needed.
Confirmation bias
Map confirms a decision already made.
Use external sparring partner or red team. Explicitly reject at least one counter-option with rationale.
