The addressed problem is validated through interviews, so the value proposition and messaging are grounded in real pain points.
Landing Page Test
Prerequisite
What needs to be finished first
Preparation
What needs to be ready before start
Landing page with headline, subheadline, value proposition, CTA, and lead form; tracking (page views, clicks, conversion); traffic source (ads, newsletter, outreach); offer status notice if not self-explanatory.
A marketer for messaging and traffic; a web producer for page structure; an analyst for evaluation; possibly a UX researcher for qualitative feedback.
Value proposition in one sentence; target audience and persona; success threshold (conversion rate); budget for traffic; A/B hypotheses if variants are tested.
1-5 days runtime, plus 1-2 days setup
Page with clear hero (headline + subheadline + CTA), 2-3 proof bullets, lead form. Mobile-optimized. Tracking set up and tested. Status notice if offer is still in build.
Core question
The one question this method answers
Does the formulated value proposition convert enough target-visitor traffic into leads to support the hypothesis?
Flow
Marker: Phase
| Step | Duration | Action | Hint |
|---|---|---|---|
1Phase 1: Value proposition and messaging | Setup, 4-8 h | Define value proposition ("For whom, what, how different"). Write headline and subheadline. Choose CTA text. Pre-test with three target users (5-second test). | If people cannot say what is offered and for whom after 5 seconds, messaging is too complex. Resolve this before spending money on traffic. |
2Phase 2: Build page | Setup, 4-8 h | Build page with hero, bullets, social proof if available, lead form. Mobile-optimized. Tracking on page view, scroll, CTA click, and form submit. Check page speed. | More than five sections is rarely better. Conversion-focused landing pages stay focused and short. Sales sites need separate evaluation. |
3Phase 3: Drive traffic | Runtime, 1-5 days | Activate traffic sources (ads, outreach, newsletter). Daily monitoring. Intervene on anomalies (high bounce, technical issues). | Bounce above 80% with clear target group usually indicates mismatch between ad promise and page content. Check consistency between ad and page. |
4Phase 4: Analyze and iterate | Synthesis, 2-4 h | Compare conversion data against threshold. Review heatmaps or recordings if available. Make learning decision: continue, iterate messaging, adjust target audience, or stop. | If conversion is low, it is not automatically a page problem. Traffic source, audience, or pricing can be causal. Change only one hypothesis per iteration. |
Artifact
What comes out at the end
Experiment report with value proposition, landing page screenshot, traffic sources, conversion data, heatmap excerpt, lead quality sample, and learning decision with follow-up experiment.
One entry per test with date, page version, and traffic source. For A/B tests, document both variants and statistical outcome. Link follow-up experiments to previous learning.

Landing Page Test — Onboarding tool for solo tax advisors (12.05.-19.05.2026)
Value proposition: "For solo tax advisors with up to 30 clients. Onboard new clients in 2 hours instead of 12, without data chaos."
Page: Hero with headline and CTA "Secure a pilot slot". Three bullets (time savings, SKR mapping, client welcome kit). Proof from concierge MVP ("Sabine saves 18 h, anonymized"). Lead form with email and office size.
Traffic sources:
- LinkedIn Ads: 2,180 sessions, 134 leads (6.1%), CPL EUR 18.
- Tax advisor forum: 415 sessions, 23 leads (5.5%), no ad spend.
- Google Search Ads: 670 sessions, 12 leads (1.8%), CPL EUR 42.
Lead quality: 15 leads contacted, 12 in target segment (80%), 3 mismatches (larger firms).
Heatmap: Median scroll depth 65%, CTA above the fold with 9.2% click rate.
Learning decision: Conversion on LinkedIn and forum is clearly above threshold (3%). Search Ads underperformed with lower conversion: search intent was not aligned. Follow-up: double LinkedIn spend, pause Search, run pricing variant A/B test starting 25.05. Owner: @anna.
Pitfalls
Recognize symptoms and steer against them
Unclear messaging
5-second test shows people do not know what is offered or for whom.
Tighten headline and subheadline. Explicitly state who, what, and how it is different. Work with a copywriter first if needed before running traffic.
Ad and page inconsistent
High bounce because the ad promise and page content do not match.
Align ad headline and page headline. "Message match" is the conversion lever.
Page too long
Form is below the fold and few visitors continue.
Keep CTA above the fold. Reduce form fields to one or two initially (email is often enough).
Sensitive B2B purchase decisions expected
A complex B2B offer is tested only on the landing page and conversion stays low.
B2B often needs sales context after a lead. Use the landing page as top-of-funnel, not as the closing mechanism.
No lead quality check
Conversion is high but leads are from the wrong segment.
Contact a sample of 10-20 leads and check match with target segment. Without quality checks, CPL is misleading.
Stop criteria
Done signals checkable in under a minute
