Plan my session
Plan a concrete work block with agenda, roles, preparation, and a copyable result artifact.
Session: VMGS
The plan translates the method into a concrete facilitated work block. Your inputs flow directly into the session brief and work artifact.
Method session with 3-12. The plan uses the existing method logic and the runsheet.
RunsheetUse the session for shared understanding. Contributions are collected visibly, assumptions are aligned, and open differences remain traceable in the artifact.
The session works directly toward Vision Statement. After the session, the artifact should be shareable, reviewable, or reusable.
- 1
Section 1: Vision
30-45 minFormulate vision: what the organization wants to change in the world in 3-5 years. One sentence, checkable by external effect, not internal status. Hint: "We want to become market leader" is not a vision but a wish. Vision describes a world state in which the organization plays a role.
FacilitatorVision Statement - 2
Section 2: Mission
30-45 minFormulate mission: what the organization does today to bring the vision closer. One sentence with who, what, for whom. Hint: Mission is activity plus target group, not values or ambition. If it would not fail when the organization does not do the job, it is too vague.
FacilitatorMission Statement - 3
Section 3: Goals
45-60 minDefine 3-7 strategic goals for 1-3 years, measurable or at least observable. Add rationale per goal referencing mission. Make conflicts between goals explicit. Hint: Too many goals (>7) signal lack of prioritization. Sponsor ranks goals.
FacilitatorGoals - 4
Section 4: Strategies
60-90 minFor each goal, define 1-3 strategies: which path leads to the goal. Strategy is a choice, not every good idea. Hint: Strategy without sacrifice is a wish list. It should be clear what is consciously not done.
FacilitatorStrategies - 5
Section 5: Consistency and test
30-45 minCheck the full set: do strategies fulfill goals, goals fulfill mission, mission drive vision? Ask external voice. Hint: If a goal cannot be mapped to a strategy, either strategy is missing or goal is redundant. External test is mandatory.
OwnerVision Statement - 6
Publish artifact
10 minCheck the artifact for completeness, define location, set version or status, and name review recipients.

Session Brief: VMGS
Goal
Artifact: Vision Statement
Working Question
Which coherent target system of Vision, Mission, Goals, and Strategies orients the organization for the next 1-5 years?
Context
Trigger (founding, refresh, pivot); market snapshot, competitor analysis; existing vision/mission if available; biggest unresolved strategy tensions from leadership; time horizon.
Setup
- Format: Method session
- Duration: 2-4 h
- Mode: Workshop
- Participants: Sponsor (executive or business-unit lead); strategy owner as driver; 3-12 participants from leadership and critical functions; facilitator; scribe.
- Owner: Sponsor (executive or business-unit lead)
- Participation mode: Team round, shared work and alignment
- Outcome logic: Finish artifact
Participation Logic
Use the session for shared understanding. Contributions are collected visibly, assumptions are aligned, and open differences remain traceable in the artifact.
Outcome Logic
The session works directly toward Vision Statement. After the session, the artifact should be shareable, reviewable, or reusable.
Input
Shared document or whiteboard with four sections (Vision, Mission, Goals, Strategies); existing statements from strategy workshops; market and competitor background; known constraints and maturity data; timer.
Preparation
Label four sections. Use known VMGS examples as anchors, not templates. Rule: V before M, M before G, G before S, no jumping ahead.

Which decisions should follow from this?
- Working question, owner, and target artifact are visible.
- The result fits Vision Statement.
- Refresh yearly or on pivot. Archive previous versions and document changes with rationale.
- Open questions are noted as follow-ups.
- The next review or decision point is scheduled.
