Plan my session
Plan a concrete work block with agenda, roles, preparation, and a copyable result artifact.
Session: Design Charrette
The plan translates the method into a concrete facilitated work block. Your inputs flow directly into the session brief and work artifact.
Method session with 10-50. The plan uses the existing method logic and the runsheet.
RunsheetUse the session for shared understanding. Contributions are collected visibly, assumptions are aligned, and open differences remain traceable in the artifact.
The session works directly toward Skizzen und Konzepte. After the session, the artifact should be shareable, reviewable, or reusable.

Phase 1: Plenary and briefing
30-45 minPresent challenge, sub-questions, and constraints. Explain station overview. Assign groups (each person starts at one station). Clarify rotation rules. Hint: If the challenge is unclear during briefing, extend the briefing and do not start in stations. Any ambiguity multiplies in all groups.
FacilitatorSkizzen und Konzepte - 2
Phase 2: First station round
60-90 minGroups work on sub-question: assumptions, solution sketches, risks. Sub-facilitator keeps template sections. End with interim state on flipchart. Hint: If a group gets stuck in discussion for 30 minutes, the sub-facilitator enforces the first sketch. Rough sketches are sufficient; convergence happens later.
FacilitatorKonsolidierte Lösungsskizze - 3
Phase 3: Rotation and cross-critique
60-90 minRotation: 30-50% of each group moves to neighboring station. Sub-facilitator stays, new participants add, challenge, and refine. At least two rotations. Hint: Rotation must be enforced; people do not switch voluntarily. Anyone staying twice at the same station only sees one area and blocks final integration.
FacilitatorPriorisierte Direction - 4
Phase 4: Station synthesis
30-45 minEach station synthesizes its solution in a 3-frame format: what, why, risks. Three-minute pitch per station in plenary. Other stations give structured feedback. Hint: Timebox pitches strictly. Anyone talking longer steals integration time. Feedback only in format I like / I wish / What if, no open discussion.
FacilitatorSkizzen und Konzepte - 5
Phase 5: Integration and direction
45-60 minDecider and facilitator pull station sketches onto integration wall. Explicitly surface conflicts. Decide direction and log follow-ups with owner and date. Hint: Without a decider, Phase 5 fails. If the sponsor is absent, direction is logged as a proposal with a decision date, not as final decision.

Session Brief: Design Charrette
Goal
Artifact: Skizzen und Konzepte
Working Question
What solution sketch emerges when multiple stakeholders work on sub-questions of a complex challenge in parallel and combine results in one day?
Context
Framed challenge with sub-questions; stakeholder mapping; background reader (max 2 pages); known constraints (budget, regulation, technology); definition of done for workshop output.
Setup
- Format: Method session
- Duration: Half day (4 h) to 3 days
- Mode: Workshop
- Participants: One lead facilitator; one sub-facilitator per station; one decider or sponsor with decision authority for final integration; 10-50 participants; one documenter for photo and note export.
- Owner: One lead facilitator
- Participation mode: Team round, shared work and alignment
- Outcome logic: Finish artifact
Participation Logic
Use the session for shared understanding. Contributions are collected visibly, assumptions are aligned, and open differences remain traceable in the artifact.
Outcome Logic
The session works directly toward Skizzen und Konzepte. After the session, the artifact should be shareable, reviewable, or reusable.
Input
Room with stations per sub-question (table, wall, flipchart, pens, stickies, sketch paper); central integration wall; timer; templates per station; camera for snapshots; refreshments.
Preparation
Stations physically or on board separated. One template per station with sub-question, constraints, empty fields for sketches, assumptions, risks. Rotation plan visible. Final integration wall prepared.
